There is a difference between responsive design and a completely separate mobile website. Both can be advantageous at times. Here is the rule of thumb: If you want the same content on your mobile website as on your desktop (or full version) of your website, responsive design is the way to go. If you’re looking for a small version for mobile that is exceedingly limited or a stripped down version of your full website, a separate mobile version may be a better option. The benefit of responsive design is that it allows the website to use the same code and same files for all displays, while a true mobile version is a separate code base.
